Why Google Chrome is not only a cost-saving basket
On Finance’s side: GOOG’s Chrome is all about Wall Street.

- OK, the money that Google is saving as depicted in Zdnet’s article is the kitchen.
- Chrome knows all your web activities. Google will sell smarter ads and thus their revenue from ads will increase. This is the bedroom.
- Chrome is the O/S for the web

Has Google got Office? Absolutely. Now Chrome is Google’s Operating System.
This is the living room. - Chrome being open-source will attract the communities (many from Mozilla) who will work for Chrome (more accurately, GOOG) for credit rather than wages. This is the bath room.
- Chrome will be the web platform on which many applications and SaaS will base on: free dependency is never a free lunch. This is the dining room.
- Chrome being very light will integrate deeply with Android for penetrating into Mobile market. This is the garden.
In short, all about making money in the long run, given that Chrome will succeed. How successful do you think Chrome will be?

Google would lose a lot of support from the community of Firefox developers if they stop contributing to Mozilla. That is a very bad way to encourage developers to work on Chrome. I think they would be foolish to do it.
The second point is a major breach in Privacy. It will cause a scandal, much bigger than their Gmail ads on the side of your messages. Google Chrome will never “phone home”.
Google is trying to encourage web developers to leave Internet Explorer out, or at least IE 5, 5.5, 6.0, and work on websites that are fully standards compliant. Why? To make Android browse websites better, to improve its adoption. To do that, they need to seriously decrease the market share of IE. Right now it is a very serious concern, and a real threat to the adoption of Android.
Improving the usability of their web applications is also a major goal, to make them a viable alternative to traditional desktop applications. Gears was NOT being downloaded and installed as much as Google had hoped. Chrome has it built-in. This is MAJOR! A total change of the playing field. If a browser backed by Google, that is so fast and so stable, becomes popular, so does Gears. And that brings the web to your desktop right now. Sharpen your web development skills, because that could be all you need very soon to develop a truly cross-platform application. Or actually: not cross-platform at all: it runs on Chrome (or Firefox+Gears).
I am curious to see if Firefox will drop Rhino and take V8. They can if they want.

Chrome is a great browser, but I’m not a sold person at this point. Love the most recent sites visited feature; they need to keep on that path for other features.
Until the browser has a dedicated developer and user audience at Firefox, I will consider.
My only wish at this point is if Microsoft decides to start shipping Chrome with Windows!
